Nambu Ironware

  • Traditional craft/Iwate
Morioka City in the Iwate Prefecture is famous for being the birthplace of Nanbu Ironware. However, if you look closely at history, in the 2nd year of the Manji period (1659) the master artisan Koizumi Goroshichi-Kiyoyuki made iron pots for tea ceremony in Kyoto, from which the later Nanbu Ironware evolved. Nanbu Ironware has recently become popular even overseas, and as one of "Japan's Finest", it is sold on the 2nd floor of the Kyoto Handicraft Center.
